Macaranga gigantea thrives at the edges of forests, frequently in swampy soils and along the banks of waterways. It can be found from sea level to altitudes of around 1,000 meters. It exclusively occupies tropical and humid subtropical climates, thriving in full sunlight and preferably sandy, even impoverished, soils with abundant water availability. This pioneering species is particularly well-suited for reforestation efforts in degraded areas, as it produces an impressive quantity of fruits that are highly favored by birds, which in turn help disperse its seeds, allowing it to become the predominant species within a few years.
