<p>Kayu putih is mainly found in low swampy and regularly flooded coastal plains, often behind the true mangrove zone where it may form pure stands or mixed stands. The tree also grows on poor soil in open area such as savanna-like vegetation and coastal swamps up to 100 m altitude. It is often cultivated near houses and villages.</p> <p>The leaves is a known food plant for the caterpillars of the atlas moth <i>Attacus atlas</i>, <i>Clethrogyna turbata</i>, and <i>Strepsicrates rhothia</i>. The flowers are often visited by the olive-backed sun-bird <i>Nectarinia jugularis</i> and crimson sun-bird <i>Aethopyga siparaja</i>.</p> <p><i>Melaleuca cajuputi</i> is propagated by seed.</p>
