Setada predominantly inhabits Southeast Asia, where it flourishes along sandy beaches and coastal cliffs, often located on the inland side of mangroves, near or just above the high tide line. It also thrives in coastal lowland 'kerangas' forests and on limestone hills and plateaus further inland, ascending to elevations of up to 550 meters. This resilient plant adapts to a variety of soil types, favoring well-drained conditions and exhibiting a remarkable tolerance to drought. Its flowers are wind-pollinated, while birds and bats play crucial roles in seed dispersal. Typically, Setada is propagated by seeds.
